Nestled away in this fishing marina in the sleepier district of Umm Sequim, Dubai is the Dibba Bay Oyster Box where locally produced oysters are served in the most relaxed of settings.
Winning various awards in the foodie circuit this little venue has focussed on the basics and has done them really well. Regarded by many now as the finest examples in the world these oysters not only represent what can be done with a vision and well thought out idea. With more locations popping up all the time, this is the original and a great example of simple ingredients and business done really well.
The oysters
Grown the year round right there in the UAE these plump oysters are grown in the mineral rich Indian Ocean. Shucked for you, chilled and ready to saviour with a few simple condiments that add a twist to the flavour.
Location
Umm Sequim has this active marina where local fisherman come and go with a few tourists sauntering by. The absolute ideal time to go is in the evening as the sun sets to really soak up the atmosphere
The story
Ramie Murray from Scotland has taken this oyster farm from an idea to one of the UAE’s wonderful success stories. Regarded as ‘Mr AquaCulture’ in the Middle East, his produce is now served across the finest restaurants in the country.
Take them home
You can swing by and grab a few to take home with you. Chilled and cool-packed will keep them fresh and if you need a shucking knife they have branded ones too. Or get them delivered if you like.
