Budget airlines can be fun and provide value that goes beyond a low price. Southwest have a great formula for doing this. It’s easy to see why Southwest airlines has made profit for all except a single year during their time (that year being the Covid pandemic). A simple business formula of good pricing, free snacks and happy staff really wins. They operate a clever routing model and have only a single type of aircraft which all leads to keeping costs down which they do pass on to the customer. This airline is one of the original inspirations for this website after experiencing how short-haul air travel can be done really well.

Great fares with 2 bags included in every ticket. And its super easy to change flights if you need to. Even right up to an hour before departure

To my delight the messaging was free and if you want the full internet it was just $8 for the whole flight

Onboard streaming right to your mobile device. The shows and movies are great too. Even had the new James Bond movie just a few weeks after it was released.
On time
Of the 4 flights taken in a couple of weeks, all were on time. To the minute!
Smiles!
The staff really do make the experience great. Often humorous, cheery and occasionally have been known to burst into song. They are just generally nice people to be around.
